PROGRAM IN DETAIL

DAY 1     Arrival, Sightseeing, Photo-Excursion and preparations

On arrival at the Airport, Marcel Schütz welcomes and accompanies you to your accommodation in the Polar Bear Lodge. After the first breakfast in the morning we get to know the diversity of the northernmost city in the world on a detailed sightseeing-tour in Longyearbyen. Feel the special atmosphere of this extraordinary settlement and enjoy a visit in the local museum. After lunch we head out again and focussing on a photo-trip, beautiful landscapes, Svalbard Reindeers and a lot more interesting awaits us. In the early evening we prepare for the next days Snowscooter-Safari. Dinner in Roald Amundsen and overnight in the comfortable Polar Bear Lodge Longyearbyen.

DAY 2     Snowscooter-safari, Longyearbyen – Pyramiden  

After a good breakfast we start our more-day Snow-scooter trip to Pyramiden. We will pack our luggage and camera equipment on the sledge and after an introduction into the handling the vehicles we are ready to head north towards Pyramiden. Depending on the weather- and ice situation Marcel Schütz will decide the exact route. Anyways the trip to Pyramiden will take several hours and we will have a lot of breaks during the trip. To rest, take pictures and enjoy the beauty of this breathtaking landscape and wildlife. Arrival in Pyramiden will be in the early evening. A guided tour awaits us with a lot of insight behind the scenes of the once flourishing metropolis of Russian Coal-mining on Spitsbergen.

DAY 3     Snowscooter-Safari, Pyramiden & Surroundings

The surroundings of Pyramiden offer countless possibilities for photo-tours opportunities: Foxes, reindeers, seals and possibly polar-bears in or around Mimer, Adolf or Petunia bay and Billefjord. The mighty Nordenskiöldbreen- the largest and most impressive glacier in the Isfjord area. Again another possibility is, to head toward the untouched Dicksenfjord, with again very good polar bear chances next to all its impressive landscapes. Weather- ice and snow conditions permitting us and we will seek and find our best opportunities on the actual day .
Dinner and overnight stay again at the Hotel in Pyramiden.

DAY 4     Snowscootersafari, Pyramiden – Longyearbyen

After a rich Russian breakfast, we check out in our Hotel and head again out into the nature. Depending on the weather- and  ice-conditions Marcel will suggest a route over frozen glaciers, valleys, fjords, which at the end brings us on different tracks back to Longyearbyen. We take us a lot of time to explore again all interessting details on our way. Lunch in the field and Dinner in Longyearbyen and overnight stay in the Polar Bear Lodge. 

DAY 5     Relaxing morning and dogsledding in the afternoon

Today we spend time in Longyearbyen and its surroundings. Time for resting and work on the already taken pictures from the past days in the morning. After Lunch we head out with our four-legged friends, the huskies. We get to know the life of the mushers and go out into Adventdalen on dog sleds. Feeding and petting included for all who want to. Dinner in Longyearbyen and overnight stay in the Polar Bear Lodge. 

DAY 6     Snowscooter-Safari to the Eastcoast of Spitsbergen

Another day, many another highlights! Today we head east to a very big glacier system in central Spitsbergen. We drive trough valleys, blue ice formation moraine landscapes and then over the snow-covered plateau from the glacier that brings us to „Mohnbukta“ on the east coast. We are greeted by one og the most impressive glacier front a lot of pack-ice and we will see ice as far as the eye can see. Who knows? Maybe the King of the arctic- the polar bear awaits us. Lunch in the field and another way back to Longyearbyen in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Longyearbyen. 

DAY 7     Snowscooter-Safari to Van Mijenfjorden & Barentsburg

After the breakfast we head out to explore the wild west of the Nordenskiöld-Land. Todays goal is the Russian coal mining settlement Barentsburg which lies by Grønfjorden. The route takes us over remote mountain passes and beautiful valleys to Van Mijenfjorden. There we enjoy a good Lunch in the white nature before we continuing in the afternoon towards the Coal-Mining town. After arriving we check-in to our Hotel and enjoy great Russian hospitality. Before Dinner which will be served in one of the Restaurants we head out on an interesting Sightseeingtour through the settlement. Overnight-stay at the Hotel. 

DAY 8     Snowscooter-Safari to Isfjord Radio and back to Longyearbyen

After the breakfast we are packing a last time our sledges. On a nice journey around Grønfjorden over glacier we approach the west-coast from Spitsbergen. On a big flat land and amazing landscape direct next to the Barents-sea we do have good chances to see again a lot from Svalbard’s wildlife. Lunch in a remote Radio-Station (Isfjord-Radio) at Kapp Linné. In the afternoon we are driving depending on weather- and snowcondition along the coast of the Isfjord and visit another Russian settlement in Colesbay- the abandoned Colesbyen. Further takes us the route along Fardalen and over the Longyear-glacier back to Longyearbyen. God bye Gala Dinner at Roald Amundsen Restaurant and overnight-stay in the Polar Bear Lodge. 

DAY 9     Travelday back home

After breakfast there will be time for your own leisure in Longyearbyen. Depending on your flight schedule Marcel Schütz offer a private transfer to the airport and waves goodbye. Flight back home.
